Jurong Bird Park Trip

Guess where we went a day before Mother's day?

Our first trip to JBP!

My camera is awesome.

Here's Lazy with his favourite morning drink.

The very first bird we saw before even entering the Bird Park,

After getting the tickets and passing through the entrance, the first exhibit we saw on our right was the penguin exhibit.

And just to double confirm that it was the penguin exhibit,

A rare sight: Men checking maps.

Not easy to get a shot of them in the water but being such a skilled photographer as yours truly is, I got it!

The dude who refused to move from his spot the entire time we were there.

The views in JBP were breathtaking.

The colours were so vivid, the enclosure perfect for photo-shots, it's like a photographer's haven.
Except that I'm not even an amateur photographer with my 2.1 megapixel Canon Digital Ixus 300. It's somewhat of an old chunky model, but I very much prefer it to the newer and smaller models because somehow, my 2.1 megapixels are so much clearer than their above 4 megalixels. Either that or I'm going blind.

Seriously, resizing the pictures is not doing any justice to the original majesty of the colours too.

Here we are at the birds of prey exhibit,

Which I find pathetically small for the birds because they only have a perch and a big pan of water and very little space to move around.

Birds of prey are supposed to have ample space to soar around.

This is an obligatory photo of a bald eagle, the majextis symbol of America,

Not very bald leh.

A very cool looking sea falcon, one of my favourites,

And a very sweet, very cute malay fish owl, or bubo ketupa ketupa.

Why is it so intriguing? Because for every visitor that passes by it's enclosure, it lets out a high pitch "haaa" that sounds incredibly like a woman squealing in delight. It sounds very soft and contented.

Very sweet.

We found a couple of big birds along the way, and couldn't resist camwhoring.

Gawd I'm getting fat.

Believe it or not, this bird was at least 700 metres away from me and I still got this great shot. Bow down to me!

The flamingo pool.

And the pelican pool.

A couple of these dudes were flying around and landing on treetops overhead too. Awesome sight.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

What's this doing in the pelican pool?

A close up...

And there was no more photo-taking until we reached the parrot enclosures (camera battery low-batt lah).

I'm not good at identifying birds so you guys will have to forgive me if I get their names wrong.

A Hahn's Macaw,

This, I'm guessing, a White Bellied Caique?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This is definarely a Hawk Headed Parrot. They're cool.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

A Blue Fronted Amazon, maybe?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Looks like Ringnecks to me. Are they Ringnecks?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Now here's the hard part. I seriously don't know what they are but I'm already in love with them.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

They look fierce, are a little bit bigger than my African Grey, but they have a great personality. Very sweet temperament, and quite responsive to my voice. They stood by the cage as if wanting me to touch them, and they look famished. They kept poking around on the floor to look for things to eat.

Somebody please tell me what they are and whether we can keep them as pets!

The following little dude is not much to look at, but I took it inside the waterfall area where they are free flying.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

He just landed right in front of me and I was trying to be as still as possible to take this photo, which was quite hard seeing as the other visitors were walking around behind me.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The makings of a wildlife photographer!

And inside that waterfall area there was a refreshment area selling drinks and sandwiches.

Believe me, you DO NOT want to buy ANYTHING from there.

Lazy says it's ok occasionally, and we enjoyed ourselves, so it's ok.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

These are Emus,

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Who came to the side of the enclosure, so close that we could've touched them. This proves that a lot of visitors were feeding them. I caught a couple feeding the parrots popcorn at the parrot enclosure too.

Anyways I forgot what the heck this is except that it's supposed to be exceptionally fierce.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And Ostriches.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This is supposedly the biggest breed of eagle.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Darn ugly.

Lazy feeling scared on the bridge at Lory Loft.

At $2 a pop for some watery cereal that the birds don't really want (that I have a whole bottle of at home from Cash's handfeeding days), it's daylight robbery. Thank goodness we had no change.

Lazy got chased by this cheeky little fella and decides that the park has too many of these.

Our last stop was the World of Darkness, where because of our lousy cameras, we got only one photo. We could turn on the flash for the pictures, but it'd hurt the owls' eyes, so being the considerate Singaporeans we stopped taking photos. Couldn't say the same the the indian family in front of us though. Wish I could smash their faces in.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Snowy owls! Hegrid!

A little more photo-taking and camwhoring before we go...

And then it was good bye.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We walked over to the crocodile farm opposite in hopes that it was still open, but it wasn't.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Oh well.

It was a very enjoyable trip though, I wished the day could've lasted longer.

So ends the JBP trip. Next trip, Night Safari!

Very cute tees!!! Its so sweet to wear them together, I feel I'm too old for couple tees so the furthest I dare to go with him is the Mr and Little Miss Tees.

Glad you two have a great day out, I miss the sunny days of Singapore so much.
