Checking In on MSN

Take a look at your MSN window today.

Come on, everybody has MSN. If you don't, you're a caveman.

There are many people online at this hour. It's just before lunch and everyone is just waiting for the clock to strike 12 (assuming your lunch hour is 12pm)(assuming also that you have a lunch hour at all).

Some have it in their display nicks, some have it in the more subtle line behind their display nicks, but nearly everyone has it.

MSN is a place where, instead of just your name or whatever you want people to identify you with, you also put on display your feelings, what's happening around, what's gonna happen and what you hope to happen. Or even a quote to show how witty you are.

It's like a quick update before you get interested and delve into their blogs. Let me give you an example.

The Outright Direct - ".... Don't feel like doing work." Kind of obvious with this one.

The Announcement - ".... Lost my fon. If you have my number ....."

The Critic - "... Journey to the center of the Earth >> 4 stars out of 5~..."

There are also the ones you care about and can get a quick update of how they are doing on their MSN.

"... The smile on your face lets me know that you need me..." This one, my brother, I know everything's all peachy between him and his girlfriend after a long fight.

"... parrots & guinea pig anyone? ..." Friend of mine, a pet shop owner, apparently got the licence to sell small animals in his shop.

Other than the typical display nicks, you also find some heart-wrenching ones praying for the safety of a loved one, or for someone to get well. It's as if we put our hopes up on the world wide web and it makes us believe that things will turn out for the better.

Actually it does.

Have you checked in on your friends today?
